Following Through in 2025

The new year is here, and it’s time to set your goals and hit the ground running in 2025! If you’re like most people, you’ve probably read quite a few blog posts already about how to set goals for the new year, and that’s great … BUT that’s not what this post is about. This post is about following through on the goals that you set and staying committed all year long!

Let’s zone in on a few strategies for staying focused, overcoming obstacles, and following through on the promises you’re making to yourself for this year.

Start with clarity.

First thing’s first: Define what your goals are. And we’re not talking about creating vague goals with no action plan behind them. It’s time to figure out exactly what you want and create a solid plan to get you there!

  1. Be specific. It’s not enough to say, “I want to run a marathon.” Find a marathon with an exact date and sign up!
  2. Create an action plan. Outline the steps you need to take. If we keep going with running a marathon, how many miles a day do you need to run to train properly? Assign yourself a timeline!
  3. Focus on your daily habits. Incorporating small, consistent actions into your daily routine is the key to progress.

Track your progress.

Regularly tracking your progress is essential for staying on course and maintaining momentum. Try using a journal or an app to track your achievements (check out this article for the best free and paid options).

Stay accountable.

Accountability is one of the most powerful tools for staying committed to your goals. Sharing your goals with a friend, a family member, or someone else that you trust, and asking that person to check in with you regularly is a great way to hold yourself accountable.

Be flexible and adjust.

Life happens to every single one of us. You have a perfectly laid out plan for how you’re going to reach your goals … and then you get sick. Or your car breaks down. Or …

The important thing is that you’re able to adjust and be flexible when it comes to your plan, without losing sight of your end goal. Read more on how to be flexible, here.

Build resilience and stay motivated.

We all know that motivation fluctuates. Right now, from where we’re sitting at the beginning of 2025, it’s easy to say this is going to be the best year EVER for you and your goals. But, what about when February rolls around and it’s dark and cold and your motivation is gone? What do you do then?

Developing resilience will help you push through in those tough moments when working toward your goals just doesn’t seem fun anymore. Figure out what your “why” is to remind yourself of why your goals mattered to you in the first place.

Additionally, it’s helpful to read books, listen to audios, or find role models who inspire you to keep going!

Commit to the long game.

Following through on goals requires patience and persistence. Success often doesn’t come quickly, but sticking with it, even through slow progress, is the key to long-term achievement.

Let’s all make a pact to focus on consistency over perfection this year. After all, small, consistent efforts are better than aiming for perfection and burning out.

Following through on your goals is more than just willpower—it’s about having the right strategies, support, and mindset to see them through. By being clear about your objectives, breaking them down into manageable tasks, and staying flexible, you’ll overcome challenges and make your goals a reality. Remember, the journey to success is a marathon, not a sprint, so stay committed and trust the process.

The new year is the perfect time to organize your life!
