Happy February! We’re a month into 2026 and it’s time to check in on those New Year’s goals you set coming into the year. If you’ve been struggling to stick to them (or are currently struggling to remember what those goals even are), know that you’re not alone!
We all know how it goes. You set a big goal—get healthier, grow your business, read more books, finally get your life together—and suddenly it feels like you’re staring up at a mountain of work while still wearing your flip-flops. That initial excitement starts to fade and suddenly, you’re wondering if “next month” is a better time to start.
We’re here to tell you that you don’t have to conquer the entire mountain today, and it’s not a complete wash if you aren’t perfect every single day. You just have to take one step in the right direction, right now.
Change your mindset.
We tend to approach goals like light switches. We’re either all-in or we’ve completely failed. Miss one workout? Might as well quit. Skip a day of working on a project? Guess it wasn’t meant to be.
But real progress doesn’t work like that. In fact, it’s much, MUCH quieter, slower, and less dramatic than that. And honestly? Way more sustainable.
Big goals are rarely achieved in big leaps. They’re built in tiny, almost boring actions repeated consistently over time.
Find your "one thing."
What’s one thing you can do today to move yourself forward? We’re talking one tiny thing that might look like:
- Drinking one extra glass of water
- Writing one paragraph, instead of a whole page
- Making one phone call you’ve been avoiding
- Reading 5 pages of a book
When the goal feels manageable, you’re far more likely to show up and keep showing up!
Focus on today.
Staring at the end result feels really motivating … until it’s not. It gets really easy to freeze when the finish line feels miles away.
Shift your focus to just today’s win. Not tomorrow’s or next week’s. What does “progress” look like for you right now? Some days, that progress will feel impressive. Other days, it’ll look like simply not quitting. Both count.
It's all about consistency.
Motivation is fun, right? But what do we do when that motivation starts to dwindle? We rely on our consistency … because that’s what actually gets results.
A few things that help:
- Build routines instead of waiting to “feel like it”
- Lower the bar on hard days, rather than skipping entirely
- Give yourself a little credit
Read up on more strategies to build your consistency, here. What you do most of the time is a whole lot more important than what you do some of the time. Consistency matters!
When you commit to taking your goals one day at a time, something surprising happens … the days start stacking. Progress sneaks up on you, and the thing that once felt impossible now feels normal.
Don’t worry about overhauling your entire life right now. Just do the next right thing, today!
