At some point, we started believing that “more” is better. More plans, more strategies, more tools, more steps, more content, more everything.
At first glance, it makes sense. If you want better results, do more to get them, right? But sometimes (honestly, most of the time), the struggle comes when we overcomplicate things. Today is all about simplifying!
What does simplifying do for you?
If you think about it, whenever things feel overly complicated, they don’t tend to last very long. You implement that 12-step skincare routine, and suddenly, you’re skipping it on busy days. Or, you’ve got a business plan that requires constant tweaking, so you eventually stop following it.
Simplicity creates something that fits into our real, everyday lives … the lives where plans change and some days, you’re just trying to get through your to-do list without dropping the ball on anything.
The truth: The simpler you make it, the easier it is to repeat.
How do we simplify?
What does simplicity actually look like? Here are a few practical, easy changes we can all make!
1. Prioritize.
Most of the time, overwhelm comes from feeling like everything has to matter equally. Let’s start by taking a peek at your to-do list. Do all 15 items on that list matter right now? Or are there two or three that you could prioritize over the rest?
2. Create routines.
Did you know that the average American adult makes roughly 35,000 decisions a day? If you’re constantly deciding what to do next, how to do it, or when to do it, you’re burning energy before you even start the actual work. That’s where routine comes in.
Get started by checking out our post on how to set up the best routine for you.
3. Don't overcomplicate it.
Not everything in life needs to be tracked or needs a perfectly planned system. Sometimes, you just have to do the thing. We tend to overcomplicate things when we’re unsure, but instead, we urge you to take action and just … start, even if it feels imperfect, even if you don’t feel 100% ready.
4. Eliminate what you're not using.
People keep habits and systems because they used to be helpful, or because they feel like they “should” be doing them. But if something isn’t actually helping you right now, it might be time to let it go.
Those routines you don’t follow anymore but still try to force, or a system that made sense at one point but now just slows you down? These are things to get rid of or rework to clear up space for what actually serves you!
Implement one of these steps or implement them all, but we hope that this post inspires you to take a step back and find what‘s worth simplifying. It might just change your life for the better!
